How do I configure Windows Media files to run in Internet Explorer?

How do I configure Windows Media video files to run in Internet Explorer without it crashing?

I am trying to get through some online learning videos via a site, but for some videos Windows Media seems to stop working. My desktop computer is running Windows Vista Ultimate.

These same video files work perfectly on a laptop which is running Windows 7.

Thanks so much!
