Problem in opening MS Office 2007 files

Dear all,
In our company, we are using a system having windows XP & Office 2007 installed. Since from last 1 week we are facing problem with opening office files. All office files icons are changed to unknown file types. But few are showing perfectly. when we try to open, windows installer opens & processes for a long time then opens.
Below are the steps I taken to solve, but couldn't

1. Done System Restore - No use
2. Removed and Reinstalled Office 2007 - No use

Sometimes when i try to reinstall or open file, it shows another instance of setup is running. But nowhere I found setup file. Please help me please please..

This is ugly sounding.

Have you run a virus checker, not just system restore?

@Oralloy
We already Symantec Antiirus installed which is already up to date. However thanks for your reply.
Now it is solved.
I just tried to boot from Windows XP cd & selected repair option later. Thereafter working smoothly.

Thanks
