Blue screen of death

freddieMaize
Hi Everybody,

I got windows\system32\config\system....missing or corrupt file error. I tired installing xp in my pc (128 sdram, p3, ibm machine) but i get "IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL" error. Tech. information as 0x0000000A. I tried all sorts of ways (found by googling) to overcome but nothing worked. So i took my hark disk to my friends pc (morden pc.. i mean dual core pentium), formatted it and installed xp. Came back home and tried starting my system but windows never showed up. Can any one suggest me (on anything... I dont know what to ask specifically as am suked by this thing for 2 months)

However, UBUNTU, mandrake and other linux got installed successfully.

I would suggest using a different CD and ensure it has no scratches on it. because sometimes if the media is unable to write all the data it does not install all the necessary WIN32 files.

If that does not work try using a different Hard Drive on that PC.

But, the same hard disk is working well in another system and the same hard disk is working well for linux in my system. This makes me to scratch my head. :(

Yup. Some weeks back I took a print out of that page and tried in my home. Din work. Thanks for the link anyway.

Can some one help me by answering this question

If hard disk is exchanged completely will the os work?

I mean, like in my case i took the hard disk to another system, installed xp, came back home, plugged in the hard disk to my sytem and tried to operate.

Will this work??

Thanks all

Does your system meet the Minimum System Requirements for Windows XP? You could also have a memory problem. Windows Memory Diagnostic or DocMemory should be able to help you diagnose any memory problems. Both of these diagnostic tools are available free of charge.

DonRayner, Thank you for your interest. I will look into those links.

In fact I was using xp on the same machine. Suddenly one day i got the below error,
"windows\system32\config\system....missing or corrupt file".

Only then i tried to reinstall xp and this blue screen... I'm sick of it...

Now i'm getting the below error,

STOP: 0X000000EA
Problem with vga64k
device driver got stuck in a infinite loop....

I googled and I suspect my graphic card is the culprit.

But I dont know how I was able to install UBUNTU in the same system.

Different OS have different demands on system resources.

I agree. However there are some (most) resource that would be common for any OS. Just though that the graphic card would be a req.resource for any OS.

Anyways. Thanks. Time to change my motherboard I think.

If your graphics card is built in, then it's using shared memory so you could still be having a memory problem. If you had access to a video card you could install it and disable the onboard video in your BIOS. If you have more than one memory module try swaping their locations to see if you get a different error.
