Lock your machine, either

<WindowsKey>-L

or

<Ctrl><Alt><Delete> and select "Lock Computer"

This will lock the computer so no-one else can use it (unless they are an administrator).

Well that depends on where they are turning it off from. I use to block items like this from the router level. How are they stopping your downloads? Do they have access to your computer? If so, is that necessary?

Make two account in your xp pc.
use one password protected account to download in background.
& let other to use second without password account.

First login in your own password protected account and start downloading. After that lock this account by
Start> Log Off>Switch user
and again login with other account & let it open to use by other users.

Try this and post your views here for others............
