*error on various programs* via vista

P: 5
Hello....beforehand I want to thank you for your help regarding the problems I can't seem to fix. I am using Windows Vista and I have run scandisk/disk defrag/computer cleanup with various programs so all of that is taken care of for a possible "solution". I looked on various help and resource sites but can't seem to fix my problems!

First off, I don't know what is going on with my rar files but I have winrar and 7zip and everything was working fine but now every time I download compressed "Rar" files it seems to not open and give an error message that the archive is either in an "unknown format or damaged". I know this is not the case because I try to use it on multiple and various rar files I have downloaded and this is even happening on files that I have had on my computer and have worked in the past but that is not working now so I don't know what to do...I have attached a screenshot of the error message:

Also, every time I manually open up Distiller 9.0 after it loads and goes to the Distiller screen, it automatically closes! It was working fine and I don't really use Distiller often so I am not sure when it started but does anyone know what I can do other than trying to reinstall it? Hopefully I can avoid that process. Here is a link to what I see right before it closes:

I have been using Flash CS4 pretty regularly until about a week ago and i never had any real problems but now every time I open up Flash CS4 it gives me an error message and closes. It gives me the "Adobe Flash CS4 has stopped working" and that "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem", here is a screenshot:

My Adobe LiveCycle Designer opens up and it was working before but when I try to open it by converting a file to a form or even creating a new form from a template, then it freezes and closes giving me a similar error message! Here is a screenshot:

Also, sometimes during the middle of the program some of my programs freeze and close with a similar error message of "Windows is checking for a solution" and that message often comes when I even close the program. This has been mainly happening on my Adobe Contribute when I use it to edit my site, here is a screenshot:

Here is a screenshot of sometimes this type of error after I close a program like IE:

I know my post was a little posty but I appreciate any help I can get regarding this. Thanks again so much and I appreciate it once again!

Hello,

I am not sure about your problem, but it appears to me that your RAR files were corrupted due to some virus (probably a worm). I had not tried but you can try repairing a corrupt .RAR file. If this is caused due to some virus then you might consider repairing the RAR file on a clean PC otherwise there is a possibility of recorruption of RAR file.

About the unexpected behaviour of your programs, I can see that most of programs that are behaving unexpectedly are related with Adobe. This is pretty strange thing. I dont know what causes this problem but you can try restoring your PC to an earlier time (if some restore point exists). For more information visit this link.
Alternatively, this can also be caused due to some malicious programs (e.g. virus) and so open Windows task manager and look for any unknown and malicious looking program and try terminating it.
NOTE- If you can then post a screenshot of processes tab in Task manager.
I will also recommend you to install an updated copy of good AntiVirus (I use Avast antivirus. It's free and fast).

Hope this helps......

Hi Amber,

I solved most of my problems hence the delay in replying to this but I have had some other problems with my system particularly a supposed windows memory problem when I run an instance of a component I use which does a "mail merge" to open up a Microsoft Word template. Also, you did say to post you my screenshot of my processes etc and I was wondering if I could do that? I see multiple rundll32.exe, is that normal?

I will post to you exactly what is happening to me regarding the "windows memory problem' but otherwise my system is running perfectly and smoothly now like it should....again, I appreciate the help!
