Sure. Just to start out with, is there another computer connected to this router that can connect to the internet?

What is the IP address your laptop is pulling from the router?

Okay, How does the IP address compare to the one that is currently connected? Is it in the same subnet?

Can you ping the IP address of the router and get a response?

I'm guessing you're on Windows XP, please correct me if I am wrong. Your router IP is the "default gateway". Try to

ping <ipaddress>

and see what you get.

You should receive a "reply" from the router, not a "connected" message, but that's semantics.

Did you check the subnets?

Can you do an ipconfig /all on both computers and post them here?

WinXP you have to "mark" something before you copy it, so right-click on the command window and click "mark" then highlight, hit enter, and then paste it into the message window (Ctrl+v).

I edited the ipconfig down for you. Not that the information was really that dangerous, but you can never be too careful.

So if you look above, there is nothing in the 'Default Gateway' space for you Win2k box. That needs to be the IP of your router, which is showing in your WinXP box.

Dang, I'm really sorry to do this, but I'm going to ship you off to our Windows forum, as I'm not familiar with setting up the network variables on Windows 2000.

If they determine it's set properly, a Moderator can move you back over here and we can look at some stuff with your router, but as you have an XP computer connecting properly, I'm guessing it's a Win2k thing...
