hmm another domain or domain controler?

Now this wouldnt be a valid action unless your in a forest...
and when I mean domain controler I am speaking of another server with in the domain....

But some suggestions...
In short... I wouldn't worry unless its a swap. If it is then bring the new server up dcpromo it, then hand move the roles over to the new server, force a sync or leave them both online for a few hours just so you know everything is okay.

Then shutdown the old one or just keep it online

These links can help you out...

ORRRRR you can cheat...
Get both servers online then run dcpromo on the old server and tell demote itself as a domian controler it will then move everything...

I like to do it by hand then nicely shutdown the old server once i'm sure the joint won't burn down, I bring the old server back up and demote it....

Hope this will help you out.
