What OS are you running? Here is some general things you can do to help a slow computer. Please provide a little bit more detail about a problem and your computer specs.

First thing to do is run a Virus Scan. Here is an online scan which works pretty well. You can also look up free-av (free antivirius) and install it on your computer.

Then run a spyware removal tool. I like Spybot Search and Destroy

If you can use a registry cleaner (I use registry mechanic), but i don't know of any free registry cleaners, sorry :( *this one isn't as big of a deal as the others.

Then clear temp folders, and clear out any internet browser information (cookies, offline files, ect).

Check to see if you have a decent amount of hard drive space left (if you fill up your entire hardrive your pc will run a lot slower than normal). Then check to see if you need to defrag your hardrive. (right click on the drive letter in my computer->properties->disk tools->defragment. Click the analyze button to see if you need to defragment your harddrive).

The items listed above is just general maintenance for your pc. I try to do this once a month (usually only happens once every three months).

A simple thing that i find usually speeds up windows...

NOTE: Only tested on xp Home/professional
------------------------------------------------------------------
Click

Start > Run >

Type "msconfig" > Enter

Chose the startup tab (last one)

uncheck all boxes...press ok...

Restart

Windows will now startup (slow first time) and only load the things it needs and not all the junk running in the background which is slowing your pc down!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Works everytime for me :)
