Add XP into Vista?

12
Hi,

I got a new PC with Vista, OS(C:) 290gb and RECOVERY (D:)10gb.
Can I add XP in C:? If you say yes, please tell me how to do that step by step, or tell me where I can find help?

Thank you in advance.

it would be best if vista and xp are on different partitions, try google-ing "dual booting windows vista and xp".

I'm fairly certain that XP installs to the default directory DriveLetter:\WINDOWS and that vista also does - which effectively means you'd be over-writing vista with XP - so you would have to split your drive into partitions.

I'm pretty sure that if you were to partition your drive now, with data on it, it will force you to format the drive - which means you lose vista and have to reinstall it after you partition the drive - Unless partition magic or some other partitioning software can accomplish this without wiping the drive.. i'm not positive.

Sincerely,
Mark

Thanks for the input, Mark. There are commercial software packages available which will partition a drive "in-place", leaving data in tact. Partition Magic comes to mind, but I've never used any of them.

Thank you for all your helps.

It looks quite difficult...I don't know why the people did not make partition before sale the PC.
