IE 7 to IE 6 Rollback Issue`

Hey everyone...

I have a user here that needed his IE 7 rolled back to IE 6. So i uninstalled it.. and all .. restarted even after the fact.... Opened up IE.. and *POOF*.. IE 7 is still there... and when i try to reinstall IE 6 after uninstalling 7 ... I get the error message.. "setup cannot run because a newer version of Internet explorer is already installed" .. or something to that effect..

Any ideas here? ...

I'm hating IE 7 right now.. and I've exhausted all my resources here.

The answer is NOT to roll back to out-of-date software. If you hate IE7, you can turn off tabs to make it look and act like IE6. There are also better browsers than IE7. Firefox, for example, lets me use an IE tab when I go to sites that don't work right (Microsoft, mostly) unless the browser is Internet Explorer.

Well as much as i'd like to make it "look" like like IE 6... there's an application that my user needs to use, that wont work with IE7... only... IE 6... so making it "look" like IE 6 wouldnt do me any good... But thanks for the input tho :D Any other suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Well... its a "classified" law enforcement app. However the only way its gonna work with IE .. is if , IE 6 is installed rather than IE7. This App has issues with 7 for some reason. So we're required to rollback to 6.

The main issue is that IE 7 does not want to uninstall from the system. Now it uninstalls from the add/remove panel... but IE7 is still there after the fact.

thats my main problem. :)

In Add/Remove, there is a check box that says "Show updates". You may find that showing updates and removing the IE7 updates is the answer (though I have not tried anything like this).

You may also want to check out Add/Remove Pro from SWSI. It's free.

Hi.

System restore should do the trick.
You could also consider looking for a standalone version of IE6, tho I'm not sure exactly where you'd find such a version. (Google perhaps)

I had to uninstall IE once and it was a HUGE pain. I had to delete about 8 different files from the registry to completely remove it. I found an article off of the Microsoft web site. It appears they have made IE7 easier here is some of there notes on other things you could try. When i tried to remove IE and then reinstall a different version I ran into a major problem and was never able to get IE back on my system.

You may want to contact the vendor (if they still maintain the product) and see if they have any fixes.

Google for this. Rolling back is supposed to be easy but I haven't tried it myself.
