Consider the following scenario: You insert a CD or a DVD into the CD or DVD drive on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer. Windows Media Player then tries to automatically play the CD or the DVD. However, you may receive the following error message:

An internal application error has occurred.

Note If you manually start Windows Media Player and then play the CD or the DVD, Windows Media Player works fine.

CAUSE: This issue may occur if the computer has been upgraded from a version of Windows that included an earlier version of Windows Media Player. In this scenario, a Windows Media Player version conflict occurs. Specifically, the earlier version of Windows Media Player automatically starts and then tries to play the CD or the DVD.

basically what it means is that there is an OLDER v of Winmedia player... in your computer.

HOW TO FIX:

1.Remove the earlier version of Windows Media Player. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
b. Click the earlier version of Windows Media Player, and then click Remove
Then, Reregister the Jscript.dll component. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

b. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 /u jscript.dll, press ENTER, and then click OK.

c. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, press ENTER, and then click OK.d. Restart the computer, and then test the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section. If you still receive the error message, go to step 3.

STEP3:
3.Download and install the latest version of Windows Media Player. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download

after i press enter in the command prompt the first time it says "no dll name specified." the second time it says "not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file." i followed your instructions but it still says the same thing. i had already downloaded a newer version as well.
