Hal.dll Missing or Corrupt

Hey guys,
I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows XP home. I just installed Ubuntu and now whenever i try to boot windows, i get an error that hal.dll is missing or corrupt. I've tried everything i can. I can never get the windows cd to work the way i read. I have the dll files i downloaded from the internet, but i cant write it to the windows partition through ubuntu. Does anyone have any ideas?
