IP fine, no internet, completely stumped

Hi everyone,

Stumped for awhile with this one. Not sure what to do next.
Basically, I have a laptop computer which I use for work. Prior to around May of this year, there's no trick to connecting to the internet - I plug the ethernet cable in, and there it goes. Then one day, it stopped working. It would give you the standard "page not found" that you would see when using IE and not connected to the internet. The cable still connected, tried different cables, same thing.

Thought that my network card may be down, but nope..tried it at home, works fine.

Went as far as bringing a router into work, and seeing if the wireless card would pick up the signal. It picked up the signal, connected with valid IP, but still no internet.

Now, the interesting thing is that whenever I plug the cable in, or via the wireless method, I get a valid IP right away. It would be the same IP each time.

As a matter of fact, I tried my laptop on my co-workers' stations but still I am not getting the internet. Every workstation area has internet connection, which gives the same IP address at each one.

I am now stumped as to what to do next. My laptop works and connects fine to any other internet source except for the one at work. I have changed nothing in terms of configurations. It basically just worked one day, and never worked again since.

My laptop will not connect to the internet at work from any workstation.
Other people's laptop connects just fine to mine.

Help!

It seems to me that the IP that you are getting is some "invalid connection" IP being issued by the domain controller at your work (my router does this when it can't connect to a DNS). I'm guessing that your MAC address is being blocked by the controller and the administrator of your network at work can easily grant you access.

It is a guess, but based on my experience trying to connect to corporate networks with tight security, it has a high probability of being correct.

Hope that helps.
