EFS file encryption problem

1
Hi all,

I know this probably has been asked a thousand times, and that you need the right certificates and key to decrypt efs encrypted files, but here is my problem anyway, i thank all for those who take the time the read this, thnx!

I had a pc with windows 2000. On it were some picrtures about our mariage, pregnacy, birth of kid, you know the usual stuff. They were indeed protected by a little software program called Folder Security Personal (3.0) . The only thing what this program does is set a password on files/folders and hide those files/folders. That's it.

So when i bought my new PC (with windows vista) I took all the important stuff of my old windows 2000 pc, amongst those were those pictures. I had to offcourse first unprotect them with folder security program, which i did : i saw all pictures perfect, could open them, could do everything. I selected the pictures' folder and dragged it to an external hdd.

Now the trouble began :

When i plug my hdd in lmy new vista computer, the pictures filenames are coloured green, and I found out that they are efs encrypted, I think by windows 2000. I never asked for this, I certainly did not encrypt them myself. My old windows 2000 pc is completely formatted and reinstalled with XP, I gave it to a family member.

I really don't know what happened and if someone could put any light into this I'm whilling to pay for the one who could possibly solve this.

The pictures have aof course an emotional value

Thnx so much

Cheers

We try our darnedest around here, Unzy, and we don't take money for it. I'll keep my fingers crossed that someone comes along with a solution for you.

Hopefully,

I read in the link that I provided in this thread something about breaking in by deleting some file that keeps track of passwords for EFS. Anyway, there were some interesting points in there.
