popup on opening firefox

devikacs
hi
i'm not sure this is the right forum to post my question.
Everytime i try to start mozilla firefox, i get a popup saying use IE and it closes.
I tried removing firefox from add/remove programs, but still get the same popup. even opening the mozilla folder in program files is causing the popup.
I deleted the whole folder and reinstalled firefox. but i'm still getting the same popup.
Can someone help me. how do i stop the popup

Try going into Internet Options from the Control Panel. In there (on IE7, anyway) is a tab called "Programs". Uncheck the "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default browser." option.

If that doesn't work, tell us more about your system (version of Windows & IE, etc).

I have IE6 and windows xp professional edition.
I could not find the option to uncheck the program.
Also currently internet explorer is the default browser.
The pop says it is not that i dont like mozilla, but use IE

download and install Ad-Aware then run it.

I don't think its a ie/firefox issue but rather a spyware issue. sometimes spyware requires u to use ie to work properly so it disables all other browsers u have installed to get around that.

give it a shoot and tell us how it goes.

good luck

Then you should definitely upgrade to IE7. They are both junk, but IE7 is much safer and the installation could fix many of your problems.

Thanks a lot for the help. I shall try it and let you know. I myself never use windows, so had no idea what to do when I came across this problem.

Delete the autorun.inf file and any folder whose name ends with .exe in the pen drive.

Go to 'Task Manager' --> click on Process tab --> Find 'SVCHOST.EXE' (You will see a lot of SVCHOST.EXE, but the one which is running using the account, which the user is logged in is the culprit ) Click End Process button

Go to C:\Heap41a and delete the contents of the folder.

Or/Then,

Go to Start Menu>Run and type regedit . In the Registry Editor browse to this entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL and in the “Checked all” key reset it back to 1 from 2.
Now you can change the settings in the folders option. Now delete the folder C:\heap41a and clear all the key entries from this registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies\Explorer\Run which says heap41a

All the best

This is a worm, which passes mainly thru USB memory devices. Formate your USB Pen drives and disks. Be careful when you connect the devices in a cyber cafe.
