Stop Error - 0x0000008E

I'm getting the following BSOD on Windows XP Pro SP2

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. 0x0000008E (0xC0000005,
  2.             0xA98AE00,
  3.             0xA91A5870,
  4.             0x00000000)
  5.
  6. win32k.sys - address BF873B34 base at BF800000
  7.
The error usually occurs only when I'm trying to play a game, usually within a few minutes. It happened once when I wasn't in a game. At first I thought it was overheating but the temperatures look fine, 50 degrees Celcius and under. I think it might be the video card drivers or the RAM. I have the latest video card drivers from ASUS so maybe I should try the ATI drivers instead.
This is a new machine I just put together yesterday.
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
  • 2 GB OCZ RAM, the timing on the package says 4-4-4-15 but the auto detect settings say 5-5-5-15. I tried setting it manually in the CMOS but it wouldn't load and had to go back to default settings.
  • DFI Lan Party Crossfire mobo
  • Asus EAH2900 (ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT)
  • 2x WD Raptor SATA drives
  • 2x Sony DVD burners
  • Antec Nine Hundred case.
  • 850 Watt OCZ PSU

I wish that I could help you, there, rabbit. I sure am jealous of those specs, though.

I figured it out. I had bad RAM so I went back to Fry's and switched to Corsair XMS 2 instead of OCZ and now everything's fine. In case anyone else has BSoD problems, you can test your RAM with http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp.

I tried the memory test program from your link. It works with the exception of my sata drive control active it offsets the memory addresses and then then computer fails the testing. Thought you should know to disable the controller before you test the memory(its a promise 150 sata raid controller)
