Dell Latitude C610 LCD Problem

I have a Dell latitude C610. The LCD will not work but for a brief second. The VGA and S-VIDEO output works, and when I hit Fn+F8 key the screen flashes for a second, and is very clear and bright. I suspect the magnetic lid switch, but I do not know if it is on the motherboard and not replaceable or is part of a daughteboard. Any other ideas welcome please. I have tried the brightness keys. Thank you to anyone with an idea.

have you tried setting your laptop as primary display and the ext monitors as secondary?

I have actually, bit the problem is present from the moment the laptop is turned on. This kind of sounds like a hardware or bios problem to me, but I don't imagine the bios has any control over the lid switch. i have inspected the cables, and tried to manually toggle the lid switch with a fairly weak magnet (don't care about data loss at this point). Nothing worked yet. I have the old motherboard, and there is no sign of a switch unless it is in IC form. The motherboard was changed by the previous owner. That is what they thought the problem was. Still the problem exists. I have not opened the full case, only exposed the display cables at both ends. Besides fully dismantling the system and checking the magnetic lid switch, I am out of ideas. I will try to do this soon but I have a very busy schedule for the next week so it will be a few days at least.

Okay I had exactly the same problem. First I suspected the video cable and possibly inverter boards were bad, so I ordered them. That turned out to be a waste of my money. After installing them the same problem still existed. I noted that earlier I had one single boot of video when the keyboard was removed. I removed the keyboard, and reseated the cables on the right next to the magnetic lcd cover switch, I now have video on boot and in Windows, Hope this helps you.
