Hey,

Every time my mum opens internet explorer her cookies slide bar has slid down to accept all cookies. My dad did download a pop up and since then we have had Trojan viruses.

Ty in advance

I don't have experience with trojan removal tools, but this one looks to be the most up-to-date and well supported.

I forgot to ask what version of IE you are using. Switching browsers probably isn't an option with the folks using it (set in their ways and all), but IE7 can be set to look like IE6 (pretty much).

I suspect that there may have been some registry damage in the catching/cleaning of spyware that is the cause of your trouble.

Un-installing the browser with Add/Remove Programs then reinstalling it should resolve the issue.

What worked well for me when I was using Internet Explorer was to go in to the advanced cookie options (can't remember the exact name of the button) and set it to allow session cookies and ask for approval for other types. This makes most sites happy and mostly hitting "Deny" a few times a day isn't really that big of a deal. Then, when using a secure site that you want cookies from, just hit "Accept". It doesn't take long to build a database of sites that are most often visited.

Thanks I'll give IE7 a go. Parents should cope with the change.

That's great. To make it look and act like IE6, go into the Tabs settings and turn off tabbed browsing.

Ok. I've got IE7 up. I'm looking going to the Tools menu, Internet Options. Select the Privacy tab and hit the Advanced button. Check the box that says "Override automatic cookie handling". For "First-party Cookies", select Prompt. Select Block for "Third-party Cookies". Check the box that says "Always allow session cookies". Now, when you go to a site you'll be asked whether to allow or block cookies. Make sure the the "remember this (or something like that)" box is checked and you'll have a sweet little database of sites that are allowed (like banking, etc. that don't work without cookies) and those that are blocked.

That should do it.
