changed hard drives

Hi,
Along time ago I changed my motherboard and tried to keep the same hard drive and i was running xp and when i started the computer up after finishing putting in a new motherboard and hooking it all up i got this message ( A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent and damage to your computer )

these are the codes: stop oxoooooo7b (oxf894e640, oxoooooo34, oxoooooooo, oxoooooooo)

i have gone to microsoft and have tried all i know on how to fix this
my question is can it be fixed or did i loose all my data because i have a customer with the same problem and i told them i would check into it

the only way to fix it is to use your old motherboard, or use the harddrive as a slave..

the reason y this has happen is because u changed your motherboard. when u format and install windows the harddrive stores the hardware numbers of all the components plugged in, when u change a video and/or sound card it doesn't care that much (some times) but when u change the motherboard it is the end of the world. the harddrive is hardware dependent, so a major change like the motherbaord halts/scares it, u can say, cuz it auto-configs itself to perform a certain to improve perform so it know how to behave.

the harddrive is still usable....if u format and reintall there u go, but if u want whats on there i wouldn't do this. your best bet is to set up the harddrive as a slave and take what u need.

With XP Pro, I've successfully changed motherboards on 3 different machines.
The trick is to use a VERY similar motherboard. Most recently, I upgraded from a P3 to a P4 but kept the mobo prefix the same (Dell GX). Then all you have to do is re-validate with MS.

i went from a pentium 3 to a pentium 4 motherboard and it didn't work for me i am in the process of trying something right now and it has worked with a hard drive i setup awhile ago and used it for testing memory and other things it had xp pro on it and it came from a pentium 2 motherboard and i did alot of stuff to try this and it worked so now i will try it with my old hard drive since i have it backed up i can screw around with different stuff but thanks for your input...
i usually try to fix things myself and have had very good success and have time now to come here and ask questions and i hope the amount of questions i will be asking now and in the future doesn't break any rules

Nope. There are no rules on the number of questions that you ask.

Looking forward to your posts,

While I have never tried it, I have heard that you can go into the device manager and remove all devices from the system before the last powerdown before the switch-over. This causes Windows to search for the new devices on the board instead of trying the drivers for the old board.

So I guess what I am recommending is that you install your old hardware, (hopefully) boot into Windows, remove all the devices from the device manager, and powerdown. Then you can use the updated hardware and (hopefully) Windows will fix itself.

Otherwise, you can re-install on a new harddrive and slave your old one to access the data.
