Compiler Doesn't Work on New Computer (GNU C++) WHY?

I have been using a GNU C++ Compiler downloaded from SourceForge on a Compaq Presario using Windows XP with no difficulty for some time now (months). I recently bought a new Dell with Vista (shouldn't matter should it?) and have been unable to compile source although I can execute files compiled on my old computer. I first tried downloading compiler to new computer and when that didn't work, I copied all files in my MinGW directory from the old computer to the new one. I get the same message: C++ Installation problem, cannot execute 'cc1plus': No such file or directory.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks, AUTiger

Could be a PATH problem. Check the Envirionment Varialbe, PATH, on each machine. On XP there are two: syestem (all users) and one just for your login. Check them both.

I have added c:\MinGW\bin to environment variable PATH on both machines (under system). On both machines I only see two TMP variables under user.
Any other ideas I might try? Thanks.

I'd say add a PATH variable to the user, as well. I've seen that fix problems.

I'm not sure I'm doing what you intended, but I copied and pasted the path variable line from the system section and added it to the users section, still to no avail. Is this what you had in mind? Thanks, AUTiger

Perhaps not the whole line (but it probably couldn't hurt). If having "c:\MinGW\bin" in both PATH variables hasn't fixed the problem, I'm stumpted.

It's in both. I'm stumped too. I've read all I can find on this issue and find no items at Source Forge.net that help. Any other input would be appreciated.

MinGW is a tricky beast, and it has not been updated in ages. I have had difficulty setting up the package from scratch a few times, but the site does include a(rather old) installer that does a pretty good job. On the download page they are labeled plainly MinGW. There are two version 3s and two versions 5s, I used version 5.0.2 and it worked fine for me.
