Blank White Windows on some programs

I have tried to search everywhere for solutions to this.
My problem is that on some programs, certain windows are blank white. An example: I installed Adobe Acrobat 8, also Adobe Reader 8. On both, the screen where it asks me to accept or decline the user agreement is blank, so I have no way of accepting. All I can do is click the X (close) button, which then tells me that I have declined the agreement and the program will close.
Another time this blank white screen shows up is on HP PrecisionScan Pro software. While the right-hand from which shows the preview of my scan works fine, the left-hand frame that is supposed to have the control buttons is blank white. I have seen others ask similar questions, and there seems to be a connection between this problem and another one I am having: the Help and Support icon in my Start menu won't work. When I click on it I get a brief hourglass, then nothing. Nothing opens, and no error message.

I have already tried downloading jscript.dll and vbscript.dll and have already gone thru the steps suggested at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831430/en-us, with no luck
I have also already tried updating my graphic driver software (for Radeon X300).

Any other ideas??

And also: on some help menus, the right-hand frame that is supposed to have the actual help info, is blank white.

Nevermind. The problem was a bad installation of IE 7.
