CPU usage 100%

Hello techies..
In my office we are using xp as well as windows 2000 systems, in that few system are too slow and they are using maximum cpu usage, I removed startup services, i removed temp files, i deleted cookies and i defragmented , i scanned through network( thinking local antivirus software also affected), no virus found. Any solutions plz because it's frustrating me...
thanks in advance...

If you have computers with 100% CPU usage then you need to work out exactly which process is causing the problem.

You can start by looking in the Task Manager, for XP right click on the Task Bar, the menu that appears contains a link to run task manager.

Alternatively press <ctrl>-<alt>-<delete>, on Win2k and WinXP Pro this will display a small dialogue box, one of the buttons will run Task Manager. On WinXP Home it will just run Task Manager.

You can also download Process Explorer which is a more fully featured version of Task manager.

Banfa gave a great response here with an awesome link! An alternative to ctrl alt del and then choosing task manager you can bring it up right away by presssing Ctr + Shift + Esc

Please let us know what is the process that is causing the processor to work at 100% capacity.

If its a virus I suggest isolating stations by tuning off the hub and scanning each individual machine - thus preventing the spread.

Good Luck, Cyberdyne.

you wrote that "that few system are too slow and they are using maximum cpu usage" so since you looked, which process is at 100% ?

Can you also provide hardware specifications for the machines as well as your server - from your previous posts I recall talking to you about upgrading your server which was running barely 512mb of ram and 1000 mhz speed.

Regards, Cyber.
