Restore erased file NTFS

Hello,

I'm in need of restoring a file that is of extreme value to me. The file system is NTFS, OS Windows XP. There is a large array of recovery tools but which one is the most reliable and give most high success rate?

Depends on your level of skill and how much money you want to spend. There are a large amount of free software programs available, however they require a great deal of skill (usually with Linux). Something like EnCase is for Windows and does not require as much skill, but is also a commercial product (you have to pay for it).

This should work well, and as it does not require installation is even better. Whenever you need to undelete something its very important to use the hd as little as possible.

Hi,
I wuould recommend using Active@ Undelete, as it is very powerful utility. By now, it is also possible to create special disk that will boot and restore even if erased files are system and OS is down.

Hey you can also give a try to ntfs data recovery software. The software is available for FREE demo download.

Run it and see whether your files can be restored or not, if yes then you can further move on to purchase full version of the software. It uses two scan methods: Standard scan and Advance Scan which scans complete drive and recovers data back.

Hope this helps!!!!

This is definitely advertising, but is helpful in resolving the issue and offered as a free trial. I'm on the fence wrt deletion. Any thoughts?

Yeah, it could also be argued that that Active Undelete post above was advertising too - technically we do it anytime we recommend to someone that they check something out. As long as it's not spam, and it is possible for them to use it (we didn't ask the OP if he was willing to purchase anything either...), I say leave it.

The advertising signature has been removed as this is against site rules. The link is fine however if it provides an answer to the posted question and is not to a competing forum.
