Having problems with Sharepoint Server 2003

1
Yesterday I attempted to install sharepoint portal server 2003 on windows server 2003.
Once we had installed it I realised that we had followed the setup instructions for a server farm set up as opposed to a single server network.
I then un installed the sharepoint services program, and then tried to uninstall the sharepoint portal server, but it was impossible. The program would start to uninstall, then say that un installation had failed due to an error.
So then i tried to repair the installation but the message "An exception 'System.Type Initialisation Exception' has occured in SPSADM.EXE appeared everytime, followed by "setup has encountered an error and needs to close.1920. The service SPS Admin failed to start. Verift that you have sufficient permissions and try again". However I am logged on as the administrator.
I have attempted to re-install using the CD but it instructs me to use Control Panel/ Add/ remove programs as i have been.

boot into safe mode and try installing, if not go to microsoft website and find instructions for manual uninstall of the software, then reinstall in single server setup. Good Luck
