It means you specified an incorrect smtp server such as smtp.yourisp.com
What is your Internet Service Provider?
Let me know and I will find out what your smtp server is.

Good Luck.

Ok cool, what server are you guys running? Is it sbs 2003? Are you guys running the pop3 connector on it? Give me a good idea on your e-mail settings so I can help you. Such as are you using an exchange server to get your e-mails or are you directly connecting to your smtp's pop 3 server?

Hi guys,
In Advanced settings change the time out to 5 minutes and all should be fine.

To Quote A Exetel SysAdmin
Staff member in Exetel's furom about this issue .
"The default query timeout is 5s (hah! I could actually see the SMTP server sending its greeting a few microseconds after Outlook decided to drop the connection). I honestly never thought anyone would think that 5s would be a reasonable failure timeout for an SMTP connection, especially considering a flooded ADSL connection can make response/reply take longer then that. And whilst it can be mostly pointless there may be a time when it isn't and it could do no real harm (also, keeping configurations simple tends to be a good thing).

To put things a bit more in perspective, the default SMTP timeout on Outlook is (I believe) 1min. As for mail servers, Exim has a 5min default, qmail has it at 20min (unless I'm misreading the documentation), postfix has it at 5min for most things and sendmail has many and varied timeouts but they're mostly at around 2-5mins (some at 10min). Microsoft Exchange allows it to be set in 1 minute increments (hah! ). Then there's the Outlook smtp server test timeout of 5s"
That's just about it in a nut shell. Exetel have changed their server settings to compensate for this issue.
all is good now ;-)
You can foolow the whole story at this link.
