Generally speaking "temporary internet files" are the files that have been download while you browse. In virtually all browsers (that I know of) when you browse to a page download that page as a temporary file. It then parses the page to display it, while parsing it may find it requires other files (css, gif, jpg, png) in which case it will download those as well as temporary files.

Where these temorary files are stored and the names that they are given are browser and operating system dependent.

For instance Windows (not 9x or ME) stores them in

C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

with their original file names.

Firefox on Windows seems to store them in

C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\dqse5ayt.default\Cac he

But in 1 big file

Where separate files are used then they can generally just be loaded into a editor of the right type to view them (i.e. html/text into a text editor, graphics into a graphics editor).
