You can use "Publish" option in Visual Studio and see tips. As for third-party applications, I can advise GetWebInstaller .

Over the last few days, I reinstalled Win2kSP2 to a spare harddrive I had just swapped into my Fujitsu LifeBook P1120 (long story <wink>). Subsequently, I DL'ed the newest Python alpha (2.4a2), and when trying to install it, I immediately got this error: This installation package cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service.

Hi all, I am seeking advice/help from those with more win32 experience than myself. I am trying to build a proper win32 installer for IPython, after a user did most of the hard work. For the most part, it's working very well, but I am running into a nasty problem, which took me a few hours to finally understand. This smells to me like a python bug, but I could be wrong. Much googling didn't turn up anything relevant. Here is a...

I'm borrowing some code from Pavel's Command Prompt Explorer Bar installer to use in my own explorer bar's installer. Recently I've been thinking that using an assembly version like "1.0.*" (hence, for example, "1.0.1304.25935") would be useful, at least for development and debugging purposes. (Someone please point out the cons to this idea!) Well, anyway, Pavel's installer basically exists to register the assembly, and unregister the...

I'm working with VS.NET 2003 and .NET 1.1 (not SP1) on Windows XP SP1. My application is using the Windows Installer Bootstrap. (I may have also installed a module which detects requirements (.NET 1.1 -> MsiNetAssembly Support.) I have a few issues and questions regarding the MSI and its properties. * This may be my biggest annoyance at the moment. When the installer creates the target directory, it's setting them as read-only. When the...

I'm having some inconsistency problems with my deployment project ("Setup") and its custom actions ("Installer"). I'm using Visual Studio .NET 2003 (.NET 1.1, no service pack) on Windows XPSP1. My main project is a band object (Explorer Bar) in an assembly (.DLL) that needs to be registered on installation and unregisted on uninstallation. In addition, during installation, Setup creates registry subkeys, sets registry values, installs...

Hi, I am trying to create an installer for my web application. So I added a web setup project to my solution (I am using VS.NET 2003). Been playing around with it since then and it basically works. Now, I am wondering if there is any way to change the directory that the installer installs the files to. I want to be able to put my files in a specified directory (user specified is good, but i don't mind hardcoding the path either) and...

This has worked perfectly for the past year now all the sudden it will not compile the installer project correctly. All our source code is in a Source Safe database so every system we do this on should be identicle. On one system the installer project will compile correctly, but on two others it will fail with this error. ------ Rebuild All started: Project: Installer, Configuration: Debug ------ Building file 'T:\Current Builds...

I am not really sure what news group this should be posted to. It has to do with a visual studio install project for a c# application. We have noticed that if any of the files installed by the installer are moved or deleted that this automatically triggers the installer the next time the application is started. While this would appropriate if the file in question were an executable, the files are actually report files. Clients want to...

All, There is a KB article pertaining to windows installer running every time an application starts - so I know it's an issue - but the KB article pertains to MS Office only. I am seeing the same behavior as the MS Office installer issue in my installer package. The behavior started happening after I added a custom installer step (implemented in C#) and the behavior stops if I remove my custom installer step.

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
