Word's disappearance and unasked replacement by WordPad

1 New Member
Suddenly, Word has vanished and WordPad is here instead. When I clicked on a document, it said that WordPad did not support everything. I would like Word back as I do not think it should have been removed without my consent and I do not care for WordPad.

'Suddenly' you ask a question on a forum which has nothing to do with Microsoft or any of its products....

How should any reader her know WHY Word has vanished?

Maybe it's a new feature of Word?

Als you do not tell us which version of Windows you are using, and the version of Word is also missing. (not that this makes much difference to the posted question, but ...)

The only 'proper' answers I can give:
"I would like Word back"
please re-install

"I do not care for WordPad"
it's a free feature of Windows.

I need to search and replace multiple words in one pass of an input stream or string. For example, given the input: "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog's back" and given the replacements quick -> slow jump -> walk

I'm trying to find a clean way to launch a Wordpad editor on Windows. By "clean", I mean that it should work on as many versions of Windows as possible, and it shouldn't require installing any extra software. I assume everyone has win32api and its friends. The problem is to find the path to wordpad.exe. At first I just copied the path from my XP machine: c:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\WORDPAD.EXE

Hey, there! I'm new to vb.net and it seems I wouldn't be able to solve this without help. I have a pipe delimited file that has to be saved in txt format so it could be accepted by my DTS package. If I open and save the file manualy in Wordpad - it works. (not in Notepad otherwise formatting is changed and DTS package won't accept it.)

I can open WordPad directly (Start, Run...), then open a document & click File, Send... Out goes the email without a hitch. However, if I open WordPad from Access this way... Sub Button1_Click () x = Shell("c:\windows\system32\dllcache\WordPad.exe ", 1) SendKeys "%FOc:\cr\docs\packets\ntrolttr.rtf~", False End Sub

Hello, I've (parts of ) HTML documents and a list of words that I have to transform as an hyperlinks, i.e. surround them with a "<a href="...">" "</a>". A first simple approach is to parse the HTML, loop on each textual nodes and then loop on each words and made a string replacement provided the fact that the words isn't in some particular tags context (<title>, etc.). It could work since my words list is quite small (less than 100...

The application I'm working on is writing to 2 different tables. The first table is the ProjectName, ID (AutoNumber), and the Date/Time added as a timestamp. The next table, writes all the components of that project, ItemName, Creator, etc... One of the fields in this table is ProjID and ID (Autonumber). ProjID is retrieved from a function for grabbing the MaxOfID in the first table that is equal to ProjectName and the date/time. I...

Hello, I have a question about strcmp(). I have four words, who need to be compared if it were two strings. I tried adding the comparison values like '(strcmp(w1, w2) + strcmp(w3, w4))', where w1 and w2 make up the first string and, w3 and w4 make up the second string. I do not want to allocate memory, then put the words together to create a string only to facilitate strcmp() comparison. My question; Does anyone know how to get the...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
