Why does firefox show unvisited sites in history?

I have this situation that I would very much appreciate your help with:
I checked the Firefox history on my girlfriend's computer and it had numerous google searches for adult sites with colored link to the site (as if it had been visited). There were also a lot of links to adult movies on this site as well as links to movies from other adult sites.

My girlfriend says no way has she visited sites like that. Is it possible that some kind of spyware or something can make firefox show sites in the History library that haven't been visited?

yes use malwarebytes. Websites get exploited everyday. If you wanna do a quick check use hitman pro and use default scan and one time scan for free removal. Usually take 10 minutes to check for me 1.5tb took 30 minutes. If you have more questions please reply
