Dreamweaver CS3 closes immediately after opening

Hello,

I appologize as this has no PHP content, but I'm not sure where else to post this. Please feel free to move the post if neccessary.

I'm having an issue with Dreamweaver CS3 and it won't open anymore. I have a legit copy of the CS3 Web Premium running on Vista. I've had no issues until now.

When I click on the Dreamweaver.exe file to run dreamweaver I get the normal green splash img, and I can see the interface building in the background and then everything immediatly dissappears. I don't know if this helps, but on the splash img where is show things like "Loading blah blah..." it always stops on:

"Initializing Extension Data" before everything disappears.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

greg

Figured it out. Apparently (get ready for the most ridiculous bug I've ever heard of) if a CSS file is exactly 8192 bytes Dreamweaver won't open. Plain and simple. What were the odds that the css file I was just working on happened to be exactly 8192 bytes? Yup, it was, exactly 8192 bytes (or any increment of that number). I added a bunch of comments to the css file and Dreamweaver opened right up.

So, in case anyone else has this problem, that would be the fix.

That was the weirdest bug.

But thanks for the solution.

DW8 just crashed right in the middle of writing a line of CSS then wouldn't start up again...

It died for me at 8500bytes... and restarted at 8816bytes...

Anywho. Thanks.

Thank goodness you posted this!

I just ran into this problem today, seven months later

I checked the size of the CSS file I was using when DW crashed and, sure enough, 8K! (I didn't check the exact size.)

I added some comments using Notepad, and now DW works!

You'd think Adobe would have fixed something like this by now. I just bought CS3 a couple of months ago.

Thanks!

NEWS FLASH!!!!

It appears the problem isn't just CSS files! It may be the amount of CSS code.

I had this problem and even after all the standard troubleshooting and coming upon this thread (a while ago) I could not takle the problem. The last page I was working on was PHP with CSS in the head tag.

Suddenly it occurred to me that perhaps the CSS code in the head was 8129 bits of data (the file itself is like 25KB), so I add some comments to the CSS and SHAZAM!

DW CS3 on Vista 64 Bit is up and running again.

That bug screams to be fixed.

I had this happen to a file that was just another .asp file I was working with. Turns out the file was saved and used 8,129 kb of disk space and Dreamweaver crashed and wouldn't start up. I added to the file, removed it, but Dreamweaver still crashed on load. I might rebuild the site cache, which stinks but I know it should work.

I am having the same problem, but can not find any CSS file 8192 in size.

This is a clean install on my new computer whick is now running Vista Home Premiun, it did work on the old system that was running on Vista Ultimate 64bit.

Any Ideas?

Having the same problem. I added comments to my CSS file to increase the size above 8192, but it's still crashing. Someone said something about rebuilding the site cache. How do you do that if you can't get Dreamweaver to open in the first place?

I had the same problem and here is a fix.

1. DWCS3[9] can't find it's files or site cache

- usually manifests if I delete site files outside DW from a network drive..

- delete the site cache in question "C:\Documents and Settings\_your_user_name\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver 9\Configuration\SiteCache" and restart DW

- rename the configuration directory and restart DW C:\Documents and Settings\_your_user_name\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver 9\Configuration\

-both those will force DW to rebuild the site cache or it's configuration

-hope it helps

Thank you so much for the info, it is by far the weirdest bug ever, I added a couple of lines to the last css file I was working on and DW opened up fine afterward. Does anyone know if there's a plug to fix that ?

I would not believe this fix if I didn't see it with my own two eyes. Just added a few comments to a CSS file and voila! Dreamweaver opens again. This is a crazy bug.

OMG - I had two files of 8,192 bytes. I've been using Dreamweaver for several years now and today was the first time I had experienced this super annoying bug! I deleted a bunch of unnecessary comments from my CSS (in Notepad - yay!) and then I was back in. Thanks so much for posting. You've saved me from SO much frustration. =)

This is a very strange bug.

I've never used a tool like Dreamweaver for static HTML pages before, I've always done everything by hand. Every time I have to fix my friend's website (which is generated by dreamweaver) I'm disgusted by the amount of unnecessary stuff that dreamweaver adds.

It's horrible that Dreamweaver crashes because of files simply being larger than 8K, especially since it adds unnecessary stuff...

I just encountered this bug. How bizarre.

Thanks to those who posted this bug here, otherwise I'd have spent a couple of hours uninstalling and reinstalling CS3

Remarkable that Adobe haven't come up with a fix for this yet.

Thanks for this! You know how shitty it feels when a program misbehaves like this and you don't know the cause.

So I re-opened the last CSS file I was working on before Dreamweaver became retarded, and just add some comments in it. And now my Dreamweaver CS3 is fine.

Thanks again!
