Both youtube and Limewire won't work for me anymore and I don't know why. I downloaded both recent Java and Flash downloads. What can the problem be?

I found this...was having the same problem....asked myself the question .."why does control + refresh work (you had to press it each time though)...so I found the article...folowed it and it worked for me!!!...side note, if this works for you, I also had to delete my "favorite" link and make a new one...

"When you are surfing the Internet, sometimes your computer does not display the latest version of a site. This can occur when you have previously visited a site and these pages are stored on your computer (in 'cache'). When you return, depending upon your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) settings, those pages sitting on your computer are displayed. The purpose of this is to speed up the Internet.

To make sure you are viewing the latest version of the page, just click Refresh (Internet Explorer) or Reload (Netscape). Your browser then checks the network server and if the page is unchanged, a copy is retrieved from your cache. If the page has changed, a copy is transmitted from the network server.

If you press the Reload button while holding down the 'Shift' key (or click 'Control' Refresh if you're using Internet Explorer), your browser retrieves a copy from the network server without comparing to your cache."

so basically, empty your cache file, clear cookies, and don't follow your old "favorite" link to get there...hope it works for you (tube...lol)

I have the same maddening problem as everyone else. Vids and music play for 5 seconds and then stop. (Terrible for watching porn. Kidding)

Anyway I've tried all the suggestions and am still stuck.

I don't get any error messages that pop up, but my "error console" has a trillion entries that all look like this:

Warning: Unknown property '_margin-top'. Declaration dropped.

After trying every suggestion above to no avail, I finally got the YouTube videos to play by turning off Parental Controls in the add-on pack in my Norton Internet Security. I hope this helps some of you who are just as frustrated as I was.
Mar 9 '08 #59
Hello all,
I have the same problems recently and came across your forum topic and tried several suggestions to no avail. What worked for me was that after uninstalling Java after one of the members suggested it was preventing the video from working, I then reinstalled it about 20 minutes later ( by that time I had got to the end of all the suggestions ) and BINGO - the whole show started working perfectly. I am under no doubt that this was the main factor behind this problem so if it worked for me, I hope it works for you too. Good hunting all. ( Running XPand Firefox ) disabling Norton had no effect by the way.

Hello everyone,

I've had the same problem that just appeared tonight. After upgrading to adobe flashplayer 9, downloading and using the flashplayer 9 debugger, doing a system restore back to a week ago, messing with my firewall and security settings (and returning them back to what they were because that didn't make a difference), and deleting cookies and clearing my internet history, I still had no luck.

Then I deleted the files in "temporary internet files", including all offline content, and that fixed the issue.

Back to normal!

How I did it in case you don't know how, just follow this path:

control panel>internet options>temporary internet files>delete files (and all offline content....I don't know if checking this box made a difference, but I checked it)

I hope this helps someone!!

I'm having such a hard time with my computer. One day I got on my account, and bam, the java was gone. Nothing works. All of the websites that use Java are almost like a stripped down version. I need some help. I've downloaded and fixed everything, I need answers.

You are a star! This finally worked for me.

Had no YouTube working for about a month now, and finally it's running!

I'd tried EVERYTHING mentioned above, all of which didn't work for me, unyet this simple route did! Crazy considering I run a programme called 'CCleaner' that is specifically aimed at clearing up internet files..LOL

So I can now enjoy YouTube! thanks again.

Paddy.

P.S YouTube is now running on IE , but not Firefox..ahh well not a massive issue!

Apr 5 '08 #73
Well, nothing has worked for me, of course. I do NOT have Norton Security, I redownloaded flash player, I checked up on my javascript, I got the debugger, I removed my firewall and ad/pop-up blockers (did nothing, so I put all of that right back on), deleted my cookies, tried the temporary internet files lift thing, and I'm pretty sure I tried some other things too, none of which works.

That goes without saying that the ctrl+F5 didn't working, either. Such a wonderfully simple solution. Of course that wouldn't work for me. Gah.

Anyway, the debugger did, in a sense, work. That definitely helped me the most, because now I'm at least able to watch youtube vids with my IE. There's always that. So, yay!

Unfortunately, I don't like IE. I use Mozilla. And Mozilla is what I want to keep using. PLEEEEEEEEASE! Somebody! Help! I'll try more later, but right now, after hours, I'm exhausted. I'm going to bed!
Apr 14 '08 #74
Youtube was fine until 2 months ago. I tried the control refresh and control f5. Worked twice. I tried everything mentioned in this forum. Nothing works. One odd thing. I can still view the videos I had saved to a playlist at youtube by turning off Norton. Also, I can play a youtube video embedded on another web site. I have installed, reinstalled flash several times. Installed and tried Firefox. Enabled, disabled, enabled Javascript. The list goes on and it's a wonder my computer hasn't crashed from my frustration. Youtube is becoming less attractive but still a challenge. I have Windows XP. I'm sure some brilliant person will come up with an answer and save us!
Apr 15 '08 #75
Well, something fabulous has happened. It was a few days ago that I had gone through my major attempts at getting youtube to play on my Mozilla browser (all of which only succeded in allowing me to play videos as long as I watched on IE), and then suddenly tonight, I was like, "hey, lets just check it out. Maybe something magically has happened."

I went to the site, on my Mozilla browser, not even the tiniest bit optimistic that a change had occured. I felt a little silly just for checking.

But, magically, it worked! YAY! I did nothing, so I'm ASSUMING YouTube has done something. I don't know, but whatever happned, worked. Yay.

All,
Hello, I am a first time poster.
I have had problems running YouTube for the last couple of weeks. I tried pretty much everything that has been mentioned in this thread. It wasn't until I read that clearing the temporary internet files may help that I had magic happen. After fighting with javascript, firewalls, anti-virus and everything else you could think of, all it took was clearing the temporary files. I am now back up and running. Wow, I didn't realize I was so addicted to YouTube!

Thanks for the help!!!

Here's the problem I've had: when I click on ANY Youtube video, the video will say "We're sorry, this video is no longer available." OR, SOME videos will have the loading symbol in the middle that won't stop loading. OR, SOME videos that are only a few seconds long (say, 10-30) will play just fine.
May 3 '08 #78
This is the exact same porblem i have! its been hapening for atleast a few months now. Ive done everything i could, and nothing works. but strangly enough, i thing i might have figured out something important. I have a cable/dsl ISP, and use a wireless router (D-Link something other) and tried on my laptop (vista) and my parents PC (XP) and neither work. Until, I went on the Internet Channel on my Wii, and voila! it works for every video! So, my conclusion is, either something is screwed up with the flash player or youtube, or some of our routers or ISP's arent working/incompatible with some beta program (possibly youtube, they launched a beta player not too long ago). either way, it will probably work on any game console if you try.
May 3 '08 #79
I'm having the same trouble, I have up to date versions of Java and Flash, and Javascript is turned on. It used to work at one point and suddenly it doesn't. But I've tried all I can think of and still YouTube will not work in IE. Going to install Firefox now and see if it will play there.
i have done all this aswell, it seems it might just be youtubes problem. i have even rebooted my computer and reinstalled everything and it still doesn't work.
May 17 '08 #80
I had the same problem just now!

My solution: choose any video, press ctrl+F5 on your keyboard and magic!

Hope it helps as it worked for me ;)
just tried that it didn't work

I understand your frustration everybody!! I was almost relived when I found this thread as I now know I am not the only one to experience this annoying problem....I don't know what to do.....sometimes youtube works fine.....sometimes the dreaded message 'Flash player, Java script turned of' appears and I cannot watch anything....I Have the latest flash player, Java is ON...what can I do?? I have tried to deactivate the Firewall...nothing.....reinstalled Flash 2 or 3 times.....I am reticent to use the de bug ( what is it exactly) and not sure about the patch.....they semed to have worked for some of you but not all......and knowing my luck it would not work for me..I really would like to get a straight answer from Youtube....does them problem come from them? but it seems almost impossible to contact them.....looking at the dates of this thread it has been going on a long time !! have there been any developments this month??
i have had exactaly the same problem i done everything and i am just fed up with it people should be able to complain about this kind of problem to youtube but you can't!
May 17 '08 #82
For me, It's as if the videos are picking random days to play, because on somedays, I can watch a video, but on another, It wont work. I have no idea what the problem is, but I can tell you one thing,
ITS F*CKING PISSING ME OFF!!

PS. the Wii still works :P
May 20 '08 #83
Still the same for me here as well. Tried it all. Even my techie friends are at a loss. Sudden loss of YouTube is still a puzzle. I give it a hopeful try from time to time, but no luck. I bought a small ASUS EEE a few weeks ago with Linux and Firefox. I have no problem with YouTube on it. I would prefer to access it on my 22 inch monitor rather than the 7 inch ASUS screen, but I'm happy with what I can get. I'm going to keep checking here on this forum. Surely, it will be solved. I agree, too, that it's frustrating not to be able to contact YouTube.
May 21 '08 #84
so. after failing at all other suggestions.. except once the f5+ctrl option worked.. i read somewhere else that YOU HAVE TO DISABLE THE GOOGLE WEB ACCELERATOR. so i did. now whenever i come across a youtube video it still has the pretext of 'javascript and flash player' bull but the video works anyway, both in standard and in high quality. fkn thank god. : )
Jun 5 '08 #85
Thanks so much I had tried everything, but you're suggestion worked, I have an old version of Norton 2003 which I update every year. For those looking for Ad Blocker just double click on the firewall symbol and it will come up with the menu and you can then see Ad Blocker and turn it off temporarily. I'm now going to see if Facebook works because that has been giving me similar problems.

Thanks once again.
Jun 5 '08 #86
It worked! I had been completely turning off Norton which is current. That only worked to watch videos I had saved to favorites at YouTube. I tried turning off only "ad blocking" and now YouTube is totally back in action after all these months! Can't believe it. I will still continue to look in here to see what's happening and if there are changes. Thanks everyone.

As far as I can tell yes. I went to Java and flash media and downloaded the most recent ones. How do I make sure my javascript is turned on? My Limewire did start to work though YouTube still isn't playing videos and still has same error message that either my java script is off or I need the new flash macromedia player. I have the new flash. I'm at my wits end.

Re: YouTube is not working on IE7

daveytindle wrote:
In most situation, the problem is about flash player.

one way is to go to the website, download one and install. However, it might not work for some users because of the security policy. The alternative way is to:

1, Locate the following path:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash

2, if you find a exe file named: FlashUtil9b. Double click it and the flash player will be updated, reinstalled or fixed.

if you find a exe file named: GetFlash. Double click it and the flash player will be downloaded and installed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!!! This was the perfect fix for my situation. I was also having trouble with videos not playing in IE, though they worked fine in Firefox. I had not been able to update the Flash Player from the Adobe site, even though it showed as being loaded properly. However, when I looked at the exe file (see path in daveytindle post) it still showed as several months old. I did as daveytindle suggested and when I double clicked on the FlashUtil9b file, it prompted me to update it. I did that, restarted the computer, and now videos show on IE!!! Thanks again, daveytindle.

If all else failed, then try this, it worked for me:

Method 1: Reregister Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Start, and then click Run.
5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
6. Click OK.

After several tries, I discovered a very simple solution for the youtube videos problem:

Just go to this website: http://www.softwarepatch.com/ Search for flash player

and download and install this file. I guess the problem of everybody is because the link on youtube´s website downloads a "non functional file ". this is my personal opinion........

This new .msi file will solve you the problem and you can decide to use IE, or FIREFOX or whatever browser you like most ! All the programs will work again.

Good luck
Thank you so much! This worked for me.

Go to this site:
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
and download and run Windows Flash Player 9 Active X control content debugger for IE. I also downloaded the Flash projector content debugger for windows just for good measure. It works fine now.

Great job!!!
Hats off to u :)
