XP manifest file not working in Windows 7

As many of you know, if you put an VB6.EXE.Manifest file in the same directory as the VB6.exe file then VB6 IDE will run with the XP look for many of the controls.

I got a new computer with Windows 7, installed Visio Studio which installed VB6 on my PC. I copied over the VB6.EXE.Manifest file, but I don’t get the XP look anymore in the VB6 IDE.

At work we have two PC that have the XP look but five that don’t. We can’t figure out the difference between the PCs, but we are working on the assumption that it has something to do with permissions or admin rights of VB6.exe or some related file or folder.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Right click, run as admin? run in xp compatibility mode? run in the downloadable xp emulation environment?
