How can I identify the specific field causing an SQL data conversion problem

I'm trying to import and process data to an Access 2007 database using VBA. Some of the data is from an outside source and occassionally has junk in some of the fields. At this time, I import an .xls to a table, then run an SQL statement to load it into another table for reporting. Then I delete the imported table.

When loading into the report table, I'm getting a message that says "Due to a type conversion error, x fields have been converted to Null." I opened the file and thought I found the offending records, and modified them appropriately. But I'm getting the same error.

What I'd like to do is be able to trap the specific data items causing the problem.

I'm using a docmd.runsql "Insert ,,, Select,,," to add to the report table.

You need to write a log file for the loading process and trap the error.
