2 app's on one databse

Hi Guy's

anything advise on which database to use.Currently using Access but Performance is Slow over the Network and doing the same transaction on two machines is a problem when looking at speed.

Using vb6

Please any Advise.

My opinion is to use mysql you can get a community edition from their site freely.
