Mid function understanding

1
I am just starting out on learning Visual Basic. I have the following code in a learning project but cannot understand how part of it works. The code is:-

W = Format(CDbl(W), "0.0")
Mid(S, 20 - Len(W), Len(W)) = W

The 20 is the start character in the string but, how are the next characters determined by the code "-Len(W), Len(W)".

I look forward to someone shedding some light on this for me.
