Search Database

i am trying to create a program that will allow people to type in a reference number and it will find the item within a database, and display the item and quantity, does anyone know how to do this?

You need to search using SQL in the database.

SQL is STRUCTURE QUERY LANGUAGE...this is the language that will interact with ur database.

ur SQL code will look like this :

SELECT table.Item,table.quantity FROM table WHERE table.referenceNumber = <your reference number>

--> table is the table in ur database where attributes ITEM and Quantity resides.
--> the code will return all the Item ans quantity where the the Reference number = the attribute reference number in ur table.

you will embed ur sql code to ur VB 6 code...in the database connection part.

I think you need to have a look around the web for basic VB/database tutorials. We're not a school. We're more oriented toward helping developers who can describe a specific problem they have in their code.

There are lots of good tutorials out there.
