Recordset or Array?

26
Folks,

I have built a sailing race management system using Access 2002 and VB 6.3. I have results with which to determine placings in the various race series. In each series there are a number of races. Racers may enter all, some or no races. The results are in the form of points (integers) where the winner gets 1, second place get 2 and so on. Depending on weather conditions and other factors, the sailing secretary must, at run time, enter a number representing the minimum number of races that must be sailed in a series to qualify and another number representing the "best" results, for example:-

User enters 5 for races to count and 3 for best 3 results.

Bob 1,4,6,2,3,2,7
John 8,1,1,4,2
Fred 1,1,1

John would win with a total of 4 and Bob would be second with a best total of 5. Fred would not qualify since he did not sail the qualifying number of races.

This looks to me like a two dimensional thing that could either be a recordset or an array. What's best (or easiest to realise) ?

I'm stumped on how to even start coding this report and would really appreciate some guidance. It looks like a heck of a lot of loops .....

Best Regards

Brian
