using information from a textbox

Hi All
Its such a long time since I did any VB programming my mind has gone blank (or I am getting too old and senile) can anyone point me in the right direction!!
I am trying to get a program to give the opportunity to select a database file to use, I can get the filename into a text box from the common dialog but how do I get it from there into the program.
At the moment the program looks in a specific location
Appath/files/database{year}.mdb
and I can set it up so it only selects the right choice of databases using filters (i think) but for the life of me I can't remember how to set the program up to read the info from the text box.
The idea is that a new screen is added in front of the program when it starts which simply says select the year data you wish to use and on selecting the appropriate file the program opens using that data, the user cannot change anything in the database all they can do is 'view' it

Many thanks for any help
Rob
