storing large data in database

Hi! Can anyone give me an advice about this.......
I want to make a database application (MS Access) . My problem is, I want to store a large data (More than 255 characters) in a field but the field can only contain 255 characters. what i am trying to do is to store it in different field. Is it the best thing that i can do? Please help....
