VB6: Password Changing Help

I'm working with a program, written in VB6, which is password protected. I decided that the current password method wasn't good enough because it offered no way for the password to change..

I want to have my code check for and read a file, if the file exists, and what was entered into the text box matches what is in the file. Then I want it to load another form.
If the file does not exist, I want the code to create the file and write what was entered into the text box (in md5 hashing) to it.

Can someone tell me what the syntax for this would be?

Or is there an easier way to be able to change the password?

The syntax for which part? That's quite a wide "spec".

I think I have the password bit figured out. Thanks for replying, though..
