Help on USB gsm Modem communication

1
hello all,
a bit new here and I want to ask if you guys could help with my project, I am currently being tasked to do an application that will handle USB gsm modems, this is for the companies online loading system, I already have basic knowledge in AT commands (and hope you guys can help me with that too ^_^), the problem is the handling of the USB mdems, 8 usb modems would be connected on a single PC,and the problem is the handling of the said modems, how could I automatically determine if one of the modems has been detached. is there a way to poll new usb modem connections/disconnections? I developing on VB 6 btw. thanks.
