Internet program

I run a web site and want to write a program to help me update it. I would
appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction as far as this is
concerned.

I would want the program to go to the web, find a certain web site, log in
with my unpw, go to the correct page of the site, enter data in the blanks
of that page (max 30 entries), submit those entries, gather the info the web
site returned, use that info to update my web page, then do that over and
over until all the items of my web site have been checked, then actually
upload my page to my web server.

The main thing here is that I don't know how a vb program can access the
internet. Your feedback on this idea would be much appreciated.

If this program can only do part of that, then it would need to be the data
entry part, cause that is what takes the largest amount of my time and
effort manually.

Thanks
Robert

I see that that site mentions .net a lot. Do you know if I'll be able to use
VB 6 with it?

Thanks

..Net is a dirty word in this group ;-)

There are tons of VB6 Exmples on the site; here is one to get you started
it downloads a web page using the winsock API, included is a vb6 project in
a zip file

http://www.vbip.com/winsock/winsock_http_08_01.asp

you would then need to do some research on the browser object model to fill
in the form fields

if you know the names of the fields and how the site expects the input ie a
post or a get you could simply use a post or get a request with the fields
contatined in the request

The form fields are the part I need most, and I don't know where to start
looking. Can someone help me with that?

Thanks

I didn't find anything there, but I did find something that works.

Someone loaned me a book and browsing through it I found the "AppActivate"
command and the "Sendkey" command. I can manually open IE, find my web site,
log in, find the page with the data entry fields, put the curser in the
correct field, then run the my program. AppActivate calls IE back up, then
Sendkey sends data to the fields alternating with tab characters so it moves
to the next field.

This of course is only a small part of what I was asking for a program to
do, but it was the most important part. I can figure the rest out later.

Thanks
