I know that one can define an essentially unlimited number of classes in a file. And one can declare just as many in a header file. However, the question I have is, should I? Suppose that, to use the common example, I have a situation where I am implementing many types of Shapes. My current way of thinking is, well, since they are all the same type, let's just put them all in the same file. The include file would be "shapes.h" and it...

Hello all! I created a successful program that reads data from a reliable tab-delimited file - or so I thought. After getting everything to work with small files, I changed the input to a larger file that was created by the same program with the same format so hopefully there shouldnt be any problem. Unfortunately after the change, my program could no longer read in data from the file. The split only populates the first element of the...

Hello, We're developing application in VS2005 using vb.net. Our application exe file is ~20mb when compiled. Recently, we have developed auto-update feature that goes on our web-site, authenticates through WebServices and if neccessary downloads updated app.exe file. We had to use custom solution vs. ClickOnce for several different reasons.

I have one of our production Accounting Databases starting from 2 GB now grown into a 20 GB Database over the period of a few years... I have been getting timeouts when transactions are trying to update different tables in the database.. Most of the error I get are I/O requests to the data file (Data file of the production db Accounting_Data.MDF). I would like to implement the following to this Accounting database.

I am working on a database in ACCESS 2003. This is a simple DB with only one table. I have split the DB so I can upgrade and debug the front end before installing on my clients' computer. I used the ACCESS splitter utility and everything appeared to go OK. If I run "Copy of DB_be.mdb" I see only the table, not the Queries or Forms. When I run the front end "Copy of DB.mdb" I see the Queries and Forms. but, I also see the Table. If I...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
