Font change for dynamic controls in vb.net

1
I have read many articles and forums where a syntax such as the following can be used to change the font of a dynamic control.

Button1.Font = New Font(Button1.Font, FontStyle.Bold)

I have tried many variations of this syntax but still get a message that the font is read only. I am using .Net 4.0. Has something changed? Is there an other variation of this syntax that might work? Thanks.
