How do i get device specific names for comm ports

Hello all
i am using vb.net 2005 and using the comm ports succesfully. as it is now i add all of the comm ports to a list box so that i can select a device in which to communicate. however some of those devices can lock-up the system as they are now the correct device.

If i look in the system properties/device manager of windows i can see that each device has a name such as XYZComm Controller,DTRA,so on and so forth. They are all forms of comm ports but have different hardware.

What i would like to do is only add the ports that have DTRA so that they are the only ports available to the program. Normall i would do this by opening each port then querying the device with a specific command and looking at the result but some device simply lock up or the program will crash.

How can i do this???

Thanks in advance
Echapman
