Storing dates in microsoft access to array in VB 2008

I've connected my program (developed in VB 2008) to a microsoft access (2003) database. One of the columns stored in the database is the Start_Date. The purpose of my program is to calculate the number of dates in the access db according to the month. for example, the start_date for a project is 20/04/2010. therefore there is one project that commences in april.

My concern is:
1) How do I actually get all the data/rows in this Start_Date column and save it into an array in vb 2008?
2) After that, i want to compare the dates(in that array) with another date in vb. for example;if the start_date is >= 01/01/2010 and start_date is <= 31/01/2010 therefore countJanuary += 1...

I need to display the values in the counter to a label in the form.

PLease please please can somebody help me??

Thank you in advance!
