Current problem: main form displays OK at design time, but when
executing app all the buttons are displayed in Windows classic style,
with 3D borders.
Previously, this problem didn't occur. Then what happened was that I
started to introduce localization, and at one point added a Resource
file to the project which was a copy of the existing default (English)
one, with the name changed from Resources.resx to Resources.es.resx,
so I could then proceed to rewrite all the strings in the target
language (Spanish). However, I got a series of error messages saying
that the system couldn't find the original bmp and ico files also
referenced in this resource file, so I deleted the references to these
and tried to build and test the app to see if at least a couple of
rewritten strings were used. Although the app compiled and ran and
used these localized strings, there was another error message on
building saying that the Custom Tool couldn't handle
Application.myapp: it seemed to have been corrupted or emptied, so I
copied an old backup Application.myapp into the project and tried
again. This time there were no error messages and the application ran
OK, but as I say, it stubbornly refuses now to display the XP/Vista
VisualStyle of buttons, and a few other things like font sizes seem to
have changed too. I have confirmed that "Enable XP visual styles" is
checked in the "My Project" window, and tried unchecking and checking
between builds to see if it made any difference: apparently, it
doesn't. It doesn't seem to be a general system problem as the Visual
Style buttons display fine in design mode. The only thing that occurs
to me is that some error is preventing the compiler from implementing
the XP Visual Style, but it's odd that the error is not being
reported.
Does anyone recognize the problem, and could they suggest a way to
restore the XP/Vista Visual styles for buttons, etc?
