Select Event fires for a gridview when I don't want it to.

I have a gridview that is bound to a datasourceobject. This is part
of a user control (ascx). I have a "Close" button and a "Save"
button. When either of these buttons are clicked I want to close out
the page I am on and go back to the calling program. This works just
fine, but .... After I go through my close down and or my "Save"
logic, the event associated to the "Select" is executed. Its no big
deal, except now there is an extra round trip to the database before
exiting. I have tried to set the datasource to nothing
"gridview.DataSource = Nothing". But that does not seem to work, it
still fires the event to reload the gridview.

Anybody know how to stop that event from happening?
