OptionalFieldAttribute Question

When i use optionalfieldattributes in my software i get error messages
following error message:
Error Target - AddGraphicArrowsLimitsToScreen
Error Message - Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Exception Type - System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not
set to an instance of an object.

I this how i have written the optional field attribute.
<OptionalFieldAttribute()_
Public GraphicArrowLimits As GraphicArrowsList = New
GraphicArrowsList
I need the optional attribute because i have older file i need to
reference and if i only declare the list as:
Public GraphicArrowLimits As GraphicArrowsList = New GraphicArrowsList

Error Target - PopulateObjectMembers

I get the following error message:

Error Message - Wrong number of Members. Object
PartfileLibrary.Partfile has 43 members, number of members
deserialized is 42.
Anyone have any ideas?
