Hi Lance,
Thanks for your feedback.
Also, based on the further discussion with Raymond Chen. The return value
of WM_NCHITTEST should not be dependent on volatile state like whether
mouse buttons are down.
The purpose of WM_NCHITTEST is to figure out how your window is arranged.
This is done in response to many things, not just input. For example, an
app might call WindowFromPoint, and the window manager will send
WM_NCHITTEST to figure out which window lies at a particular point on the
screen.
So, WM_NCLBUTTONDOWN or WM_RBUTTONDOWN should be used here. Thanks.
Best regards,
Jeffrey Tan

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at
